Matt Walsh
Although working in Devon, Matt has his routes firmly in the Nailsworth area, growing up with his parents in Kings Stanley (just outside Stroud) and his much loved grandparents living in Nailsworth itself. In fact, it is Matt’s grandparents who Baroque Glass must thank for bringing Matt’s work to Liz Brett’s attention. So impressed with his work , she immediately offered to give him an exhibition and accordingly Matt had his first very successful solo exhibition in the gallery from February to March 2007.
Since graduating from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College in 2003, Matt has been working in the Devon studios of world renowned glass artist Bob Crooks. As first glass assistant, he is given time to create his own designs and glass work, much of which can be seen at his exhibitions.
The imagery for his wall plate designs are based on horticultural and aquatic themes. Matthew uses the glass as a canvas in order to recreate his own photographic images.
In his ‘Dune’ range, he has experimented with colour to create fluidity and movement. He does this by noting how different colours react with each other, thus creating a whole new palette within the piece itself.
Matthew’s work has been shown in a number of places including London, Cheshire, Devon and Amsterdam. He had his first solo exhibition at the Baroque Glass Gallery in 2007 and will be showing again from the 15th March – 12th April in 2008. He is available for commissions and exhibitions and can be contacted through Baroque Glass.
